COACHING
Coach:
A vehicle or carriage intended to transport people
from where they are to
            where they
want to be.
Coaching is now globally recognised as a profession in the
UK as both an effective tool to improve business performance and an essential
addition to professional development strategy.
It's effectiveness in the workplace is now recognised to the extent that
CIPD produce a
magazine dedicated to promote it's benefits.
Coaching, surprisingly, has yet to find its way into the boardroom.
Why surprisingly? Coaching is traditionally associated with the individual.
What team wouldn't benefit from having its current thinking challenged, a mirror held up to the
relationships and behaviours of the team and some impartial feedback from a trusted partner?
Coaching is a process of learning "how to" supported by a coach as opposed to being taught by a teacher. In Coaching it is the relationship between the coachee and coach that facilitates the development of strategies and achievement the clients outcomes.
"Coaching is unlocking a person's potential to maximise their
own performance.
It is helping them to learn rather than teaching them..." --
Timothy Gallwey, "The Inner Game of Tennis"
