FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q1. What will career management do for me.
A. The flippant answer is anything you want it to. Like anything else that
professionals like you undertake the results are far more predicatable and satisfying
when the outcome is predetermined and achieved through a well managed plan.
Q2.Isn't this this just another type of coaching.
A. Yes.
There are many excellent coaches out there that could take you through
the the same process and achieve good results. Careers are what we know best
which means you get access to the most current expertise and therefore get quicker
results. The analogy we use is that a high street garage could repair your vintage classic.
They might not have all the specialist tools or manuals or know the specialist tricks so
might take longer. Also if they were passionate about vintage cars why would they work for
a modern franchise?
Q3.Who would benefit from using a career coach.
A. Career managememt would benefit:
· New managers and leaders who want to quickly develop new skills.
· Experienced leaders and managers who want to maintain or increase their momentum and flexibilty.
· Ambitious professionals too busy extinguishing fires to think about the future.
· Anyone considering a complete career change, self employment or starting their own business
· Young professionals or recent ex graduates who want to make a rapid impact.
· Anyone facing redundancy.
· Anyone (typically mothers or full time carers) returning to work after a career break.
· Career professionals who want to develop their people
· Anyone who has arrived at a career cross road.
· Anyone starting to think about retirement options.
Q4.Do you offer life coaching.
A. It's almost unavoidable. Whatever point you start from in coaching
personal and professional issues will at some stage blur.
We will always start with career outcomes and tackle any personal ones as they arise.
If one of our clients does want personal coaching we will are more than happy to help.
Q5.How much does it cost.
A. Cost ultimately depends on the magnitude and complexity of what you want to achieve.
We charge by the hour so session length and number will dictate cost.
We can usually give an indication of cost once you tell us your plans. Call us for a no oblication
discussion and we will be happy to give you a quote.
Q6.How long does it take.
A. Sessions are normally hourly, the number of sessions will depend on the nature and
complexity of the outcomes. Some issues may be resolved in a single session.
Your outcomes drive the time span and frequency of the sessions so can
generally be estimated at the start of the process.
Q7.How does it all work.
A. Coaching sessions can take place either over the phone or face to face.
For most people telephone sessions are most convenient, if you prefer face to face
meetings we are happy to accomodate.
Face to face meeting may incure additional costs to cover traveling time and
travelling expenses.
Sessions are normally agreed, booked and paid for in advance, you should talk to yur coach
if you have any specific payment or scheduling requirements.
Q8.Is coaching the same as mentoring.
A. The process can be similar, the key differentiator is that a mentor has a
skill or experience to be passed on.
A coach is more a guide and may well know little or nothing about the subject matter.
The role of the coach is to facilitate the coachees own learning which is ultimately
more benefit in the long term as the lessons are likely to generalise to other areas of life.
Q9.How does coaching differ from counselling or therapy.
A. The key difference is that a counsellor will be looking to the past for reasons
for the current issue.
A coach will put your attention on the future and achievement of what you want to achieve.
The coaching process is not dependent on identifying and re-living potentially painful events in the past in order to make changes in the future.
Q10.How should I choose a coach
A. By far the best way to choose a coach is by personal recommendation.
If this is not possible the reality is that you will have to go with your
intuition and monitor the progress you are making as the relationship develops.
It may be worth asking for testimonials but who is going to pass on the details of a dissatisfied customer?
As a minimum ensure that your prospective coach is a member of a professional body and that they have professional indemnity insurance to cover the work they will be doing with you.
Do not over commit to advance payment for services.
If you do have doubts find an alternative coach.
Q11. How do I know a coach is right for me.
A. Your will feel comfortable with the relationship and have evidence that you are
making progress towards your goals. If you are not making the progress raise
it with your coach.
If your coach is working in your best interests he or she should raise the issue
before you and agree what should happen next.
Q12. How do I know my coach is qualified.
A. This can be a minefield. There are a number of professional coaching
organisations,academy's, schools etc.
out there who all promote varying benefits of their own particular brand or philosophy.
Just because a coach is not a member of a professional body does not mean they do not have
the experience to help you.
We subscribe and adhere to INLPTA which is an international body which sets standards and a code
of practice for its member.
